Oats

Seed Production

As a member of the Oat Industry Group, we are part of a group of Southern New Zealand Oat growers who, along with Harraways work together to breed new varieties of Oats for both improved on-farm performance and for better milling and eating quality.

This has involved us both hosting trial plots that are run by Plant Research Ltd. and also being a producer of seed to be sold on to other farmers with all profit being returned to the collective group for reinvestment into better genetics for our future.

Harraways

We are proud to be oat growers for Harraways in Dunedin. Harraways is the only oat mill in New Zealand that produces oats specifically for human consumption. Oats are an incredible food source, packed with essential nutrients and health benefits. They are rich in fiber, which aids in digestion and helps maintain a healthy gut. Oats are also a great source of energy, providing a sustained release of carbohydrates throughout the day. Additionally, they are known for their cholesterol-lowering properties and can contribute to heart health. We take great care in cultivating our oats, ensuring that they are of the highest quality and deliver the best taste and texture. Harvested with precision and passion, our oats are destined to become a vital part of many nutritious meals and snacks enjoyed by many across New Zealand.

Wheat, Barley and Oats are grown for stock feed. Most straw is returned to the soil but we bale some each year for sale as stock feed and for our own animal consumption.

For straw sales please get in touch with Pete or the Arkley team.

The grain we grow is taken next door to Pete's brother Richard who then stores and processes it into High quality stock feed. It is then delivered as calf meal or bulk dairy, sheep or deer feed to farmers in Eastern Southland / West Otago.

For all stock feed sales other than straw, please contact Richard.
