Arkley (160ha) at Knapdale was purchased from the Collins family by Pete, his brother and parents in 2007 and was run in conjunction with the Gardyne family farm ''Viewbrae'. In 2015 Pete & Esther purchased the other shares of Arkley and started farming as Arkley Farm Ltd, adding 80ha of the adjoining Gerken Block lease from Pete's parents. 140ha on the west side was gradually leased from the Ward family.

Arkley has medium to light soils and flat to rolling topography. It has an annual rain fall of 780mm. While it can be summer dry, it excels in winter and the shoulders of the season.

Properties

With the Waikaka and Pukerau streams both flowing through these properties and SH1 and SH90 also cutting through, it is both picturesque and busy at the same time. The soil is heavy and the annual rainfall is around 950mm, making it good summer country.

Bracken Hill

Bracken Hill (380ha) at McNab was leased from the Smith family in 2021; 99ha on the east boundary was leased from the Mason family in 2023.

Ohio is leased from the Potter family, firstly 135hs of Mervyn Potter's in 2021 followed by 148ha of Trevor Potter's in 2023. This included the purchase of the Ohio Poll Dorset stud.

Ohio

Ohio has heavy soil and has an annual rainfall of around 1,000mm. It is good summer country and ranges from flat to steep rolling. It is home of the stud sheep.

Pyramid

Pete has run Pyramid Hill (120ha) for his family since 2007, in 2015 Arkley Farm Ltd. took over the lease. In 2023 38ha just down the road was leased from the Greene family.

Pyramid Hill provides the best view but can be a tough property with two thirds tussock, facing the Northwest and thin soil with plenty of rock. It is well suited to Perendale ewes and a few beef cows with store lambs heading away at weaning. With an annual rainfall in the 650mm range it is summer dry.

Greene's block is better quality land where we only crop the flat area, and the Greene family run livestock on the rest of the property. It gets a similar rainfall but has far deeper topsoil.
