Stud Sires
Glengarry 498-22
The highest priced Poll Dorset purchased so far this year in New Zealand.
From a stud with top figures for NZTW & growth, they have also focused on having good feet. These are why we have purchased from Glengarry to help progress our stud.
498-22 stood out from the rest of the rams at the sale with his outstanding carcass shape and heavier bone along with the Glengarry figures and feet. This is why he was hot property. Even in these tougher times we are investing for the future for both our clients and our own farming operation.
These are the sires pushing our stud forward
Ohio 298-22 & 157-22
These two home bred rams have exceptional meat and growth. They both fit our quest to match both physical constitution and performance on SIL.
Ohio 298-22 (left) stood out very early on with good growth, eye muscle and well-shaped hindquarters, he was used as a ram lamb.
Ohio 157-22 (right) has an impressive lineage going back to our oldest surviving ewe 217/11 (still in our stud) who has produced top stud rams. He ranks 5th in our stud for NZTW and stands out physically.
Wharetoa Genetics Texel A75-22
The top ram on paper and structurally, sired by Blackdale 85-20 (sold for $20,000)
Both Wharetoa and Blackdale have a maternal and terminal focus on their Texels making them a good option for our Poll Dorset Texel cross rams.
A75-22 stood out among his pairs with the very rare combination of physical soundness and being top on the breeding index.
We have purchased him in combination with another stud, which will give the bonus of good across flock analysis connectedness.
Ohio 261/23, 59/23 & 248/23
These home bred sires are all twins with plenty of growth and meat. They have all been used as ram lambs in the stud and have grown out nicely.
Ohio 261/23 (left) is sired by Carelton 22/20 and is our top ram on SIL, he is a very clean, tidy ram.
Ohio 59/23 (middle) is sired by Adelong 128/20 and would be in the front row of any scrum, his mother is a daughter of Ohio 40/18 who is a heavy boned meaty ram. He has the rare combination of growth, meat and an IMF of 1.
Ohio 248/23 (right) is sired by Ohio 298/22 (who is above). He is a medium framed ram with the typical Ohio 298/22 shape and growth. Ohio 298/22 has bred a tremendous line of rams and ewes from his mating as a ram lamb.
We have a team of 5 Poll Dorset Stud sires heading to the Gore A&P Ram Fair on Tuesday 21st January 2025.
We have picked these rams on a balance of Physical constitution and SIL performance data. We encourage you to get in touch if you want more pictures, videos, data or to come and have a look in person. While we have picked these 5 rams, we have others that may suit your needs better. Just get in touch to find out more.

Poll Dorset Texel Stud Sires
There is a limited number of 2th Poll Dorset Texel Stud Sires again this season. We have 50% more lambs born in the 2024 drop, some of these will be available this season in mid March as ram hoggets.
If you are looking for Poll Texel rams, get in touch, due existing demand and the finishing up of a local Poll Texel stud (who has regularly sourced some of his genetics from Ohio.) We will continue to increase the availability of these rams while keeping and increasing the quality.
Our stud and commercial rams are all run together. We sell our commercial Poll Dorset and Poll Dorset Texel X sires privately on farm from mid January onwards.
Our breeding focus is to balance the physical structure and constitution with high performance which we measure on SIL (Sheep Improvement Ltd, New Zealand's sheep performance measuring standard). We believe our Ohio Poll Dorset and Poll Dorset Texel are as good as you will get for the balance of physical and figures in New Zealand terminal sires.
We welcome you to get in touch and or come for a visit to have a look at what we get up to. If our rams suit your breeding objectives that is great, if not we enjoy having a yarn to see if we can provide some good genetic advice to help move your farming business forward.
